Spring Camp Out Ocotillo Style at N 33° 07.904 W 116° 08.162

That time of the year again.

Nothing fancy here, just a Campout to go along with the CITO. Come on out to the CITO and spend the night.

There will be a nice camp fire to enjoy at night .

Sorry no porta potties, no raffle, no poker run. Just a nice day to do some Caching and then spend the night.

We will fire up the big BBQ for a picnic lunch after the CITO. The hotdogs seemed to be a hit last year so we'll do it again. So, after the CITO come on over and count this EVENT also.

I am planning a 4+ mile, 5+ cache hike to "heaven" ( My Stairway To Heaven
GC17C2K ). Start near the trailhead at Fall-Book Cache GC1JBVP. Meet at 0900. It is much more fun to hike / cache together. Bring water if you come. Dogs OK. Chime in if you are interested. Any comments or
suggestions?

Mark your calendars for the next cache-a-thon. I've picked Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. More details forthcoming!

A few changes will be put into action to allow everyone a chance to locate a cache. We're going to draw numbers that will be assigned to each cache, the person who has that number gets the first opportunity to arrive at the location and two minutes to find the cache. After two minutes others are allowed to search. If we have more people than caches, then we will double up per each cache.

Initial research shows that we could go as much as 10 miles RT, but I'm going to cap it around 6 - 7 miles. We will be stopping for a lunch break at mile 3ish, depending on the cache that's in the area. This is considered a "hike" and you will need to bring lunch, water (2Liters min), hats, sunscreen and comfortable hiking boots or shoes. There will not be any facilities or places to purchase food and drink. Also this area is known for poison oak, so if you're highly allergic, please use caution and stick to the trails.

Please if you are a cache hound are want to find every single cache, please do not come to this event. It is intended for new members or rookie cachers to show them how fun it is to find their own first cache - this includes honing in on the location, not just looking around an area someone else has identified.

I will not include puzzle caches (unless they can be easily solved), multi-caches or virtual caches this time.

Hope you can make it to this event!

Balboa Park Cache-a-Thon

Okay, this should be an interesting event and it will be the first time I've tried something of this scale. There are a total of 28 Geocaches (downloaded from geocaching.com) that are spread out, in and around Balboa Park. That includes one that is apparently inside the Zoo. I don't have passes, but if anyone does, they're welcome to detour and find this one as well.

I've set up the route moving in a counterclockwise direction around Balboa Park. The route (as a crow flies) is 4.6 miles, however, there will be a lot of cutting back and forth, and winding trails to reach some of these caches, so I would imagine it could be close to 8 miles when finished.

This is NOT a race. This is an exploration of Balboa Park and helping newcomers find their first caches, etc. We can stick together, or we can break off into smaller groups so as to give more people a chance to find their first cache. This all depends on how many show-up.

Follow this link to download the MapSource files or all the individual .loc files to load into your GPS. There's also a larger version of the satellite image overlay.

For a detailed look, there is a Google Earth file you can download at the link above.

It is highly recommended that you pack water, possibly some lunch (or you can buy lunch at a few places around the park).

As with any geocache, there is no guarantee it still exists. I have not checked each cache so there is a risk of not finding a few. Also, be sure to bring plenty of trinkets to share in the caches you find!

Tired of the same old humdrum, run-of-the-mill, mundane, routine cache hide-and-finds? Well, we have something NEW for you!

North County Cachers invite you...no we DARE you...to be a part of a new caching challenge that many will try, but few will complete. Do you think you have what it takes to be one of those few? Will you be able to go the distance?

Details of our adventure will be provided this night at Round Table Pizza in Escondido beginning at 6 p.m.

A strolling magician and prestidigitator will be on hand to perform feats that will amaze the skeptical and capture the imaginations of all.

Door prizes will be awarded to many of those in attendance. Prizes include unactivated geocoins, a battery recharger, an array of Homie collectibles, admission tickets to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club race meet, and will feature a UNITED STATES FLAG, flown in the name of the winner (or designate) over one of Fuster75's helicopters in Iraq and a signed certificate with the name on it. (We can't believe we're giving this away!)

We are planning a super fabulous FTF bonus for that future date when we hope someone will actually complete our challenge. Who knows? Could it be you?

We look forward to seeing you and we promise you not just an event, but an experience.

**** AGENDA UPDATE ****

Come join others who enjoy Geocaching. Savor the refreshments while exchanging travel bugs and caching adventures. Consider bringing a friend to the event who has never gone geocaching. This would be a wonderful opportunity to pack a lunch, and drinks, introduce them to the sport, and then take them on a search for a nearby cache.

There are plenty of caches nearby. Geocaching Web Page

Come and enjoy the beautiful view of Otay Lake and the surrounding hills. The 78-acre park, which is also the proposed eastern gateway/staging area for the Otay Valley Regional Park, has long been a favorite in the South Bay. A playground, horseshoe courts, hiking trails, lawn area, and native plant/demonstration garden are a few of the many reasons to visit Otay Lakes County Park.

Individuals or businesses interested in donating items to be raffled are encouraged to contact me directly. Parking is $3 or you can park nearby for free at the entrance to the park.

Grab your picnic and drinks and come join us on Saturday, April 19th at 10 AM. Please add a note with the number of people joining you so we can coordinate with the Park Rangers.

Cost: $3.00
